Outreach/Support

Support

Outreach and Support for familiesAn important aspect of the nurse coordinator role is providing outreach education and coordination to community hospitals, especially newborn nurseries, as well as pediatricians and community health clinics. Coping with an infant born with a facial defect can be difficult for families, as well as health care providers. They may not have the resources available to deal with issues such as parent education, feeding problems or emotional support. Our nurse coordinator is available to provide assistance to families and health care providers, either by visits to hospitals in the surrounding area or phone consultation.

She can be reached by calling the office at (214) 456-8888 or by sending us an email.

New Outlook Support Group

The birth or diagnosis of a child with a craniofacial defect can be very difficult for a family. In addition to the support and resources offered by the professionals on the Craniofacial team, it is often helpful for parents to meet and talk with other families experiencing the same event and share their thoughts and feelings. New Outlook is our Craniofacial family support group at Children's Medical Center. Participation varies according to the families needs and wishes. Our parent network links families during times of need such as the child's birth or upcoming surgery. A newsletter provides information, and family gatherings, such as the annual Christmas party, are an opportunity to meet other parents and children. If you would like more information about New Outlook or to talk to another parent, please contact us.
