Clinical Speech-Language Pathologist

Dianne Altuna has over 20 years of experience working with children with a craniofacial difference and their families. Prior to joining Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery for Children, Dianne worked at Medical City Dallas Hospital (Dallas Texas) and Saint John's Hospital and Health Center (Santa Monica California).

Dianne has reviewed articles, books and information relating to all areas of Speech Pathology, and specifically Craniofacial Differences. She has lectured nationally, and presented papers at several international programs. Dianne holds a Lecturer position at the University of Texas at Dallas. She has taught courses in Craniofacial Disorders, Pediatric Medical Speech Pathology, and Anatomy and Physiology since 1993. In 2001, Dianne developed "Camp C.A.R.E." through UTD. This unique camp paired graduate students in Speech Pathology with children with a Craniofacial difference. The children received intensive speech therapy during the summer; the graduate students received training in working with a very special population.

Dianne is an active member of the American Cleft Palate Association, and is the Regional Director of the Velocardiofacial Syndrome Educational Foundation. Her knowledge of Velocardiofacial Syndrome (VCFS) is extensive. Dianne was instrumental in the passage of SB1612, a bill that mandates Early Childhood Intervention Specialists screen for VCFS.
