A. Jay Burns, M.D.

Dr. Burns is currently an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and has his private practice at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas with offices at the Tom Landry Center. Dr. Burns was born and raised in Garland, TX. After graduating from South Garland High School, he proceeded to Baylor University where he graduated magna cum laude. He was elected President of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and was also chosen Outstanding Senior Man. He was recently honored as Outstanding Junior Alumni in 1994. Dr. Burns is a graduate of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. In his senior year at Southwestern he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha honorary society. He did an internship and residency in General Surgery at the University of Utah Affiliated Hospitals in Salt Lake City. Dr. Burns completed his residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School then went on to complete a fellowship in Vascular Anomalies at Harvard Affiliated Hospitals. He is board certified in two specialties; General Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Burns is a noted national and international speaker and authority on laser and cosmetic surgery. He serves as director for several national laser symposiums each year. He also serves on the ASPRS/PSEF Laser Task Force.

He speaks regularly on television and radio and has been quoted in national as well as local publications such as D Magazine, The Washington Post, Readers Digest, Self, Family Circle, and Better Homes and Gardens.

Dr. Burns is a member of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, the Dallas Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the Christian Medical and Dental Society.

Dr. Burns and his wife, Ginny, have been happily married for 20 years. His two children, Hunter, 13, and Molly, 13, attend McCulloch Middle School. Dr. Burns is enthusiastically involved with his family and church, and is regularly active in international Christian medical mission trips, as well as Bible Study Fellowship. His personal interests involved fishing, hunting, wildlife video and photography, as well as golf and snow skiing.
